Mission and Purpose

Our Mission
We believe if we plant seeds of mental discipline in our students as we make learning chess fun and if we continue to water them we will see the fruit of this labor of love in time! The Purpose
We recognize that learning to play the game of chess is not enough by itself to
guarantee a fulfilling and productive life. We must also learn to translate and
incorporate the lessons of this game into practical, everyday strategies. The
PURPOSE, and real-life benefits of a chess education—which have all too often
been ignored or discounted—are here (within our program) actively pursued, and promoted. Mastery of
the game is therefore redefined in terms of the personal development of the
student. It was once said by Paul Morphy an American chess master and the world’s leading chess player
during his time, “The ability to play chess is the sign of a gentlemen. The ability to play well is the sign of
a wasted life.” Though we don’t agree with his statement entirely, the sentiment of his words ring true.
Hence, it is our posture that “No matter how skilled or how highly rated we may help our students
become, if their life skills are not improving, then they are not mastering the most
important thing of all, themselves.”
The game of chess should not be an end in itself, but
rather a tool towards the goal of self-mastery. ChessLife Strategies ™ is an
extension of our Chess Tutors Program. The aim of our approach is for students to learn the necessity of mastering their
thoughts, emotions, words, and actions; For them to develop the understanding that the discipline that
they attain will determine what they will become capable of achieving and
overcoming in all areas of their life; The fact that we cannot always control
the traumatic events that happen within the world around us. We can however,
control how we respond to them.

IT IS OUR BELIEF THAT:
- Words give birth to thoughts,
- Thoughts, once well rooted, give birth to actions,
- Our actions, over time, become habits,
- Habits give birth to our character, and
- Our character determines which paths we chose in life.
